Love is a practice rooted in care, commitment, respect, and trust. Anything that betrays these qualities deserves another name.
I wrote this song for someone I love. I wanted her to know that a relationship doesn’t have to look like entrapment, abuse, and suffering, even if the world is full of examples that seem to normalize it.
Don’t let abuse masquerade as love. Don’t stay in something that keeps you down. Hold hope for people’s healing, while honoring your needs & safety first. Leave them flowers, save your heart 💐🫀
On the visual front, this is probably the most experimental thing I’ve tried yet. I built a little 3d scene within synema, very similar to what one does when making a video game. I then brought in visual elements and attached each element to a different stem from the song, and incorporated some evolution that happens based on time. So what you get is a little story that plays out through the song.
When starting the only thing I knew was that I wanted a garden that grew with the song. I just kept adding little bits as I went. The heart in the center is an homage to one of my favorite Frida Kahlo paintings. The bit I’m most proud of getting right in the piece is the idea of the heart planting seeds and the stormy weather helping them grow.
